Confession & Communion at St. Vladimirís + Rule to Prepare for Communion
11/12/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimirís we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

Our Sister in Christ Lydia Hirscht passed away on Sunday, November 29 at her daughterís home in Florida. The funeral will be at the Holy Ascension parish in Albion, MI on Friday, December 11 at 12:00 p.m. Although only those that have been at St. Vladimir's for some time will remember Lydia, we know that they remember her fondly. And we ask the prayers of all our parishioners for the repose of her soul, even if you did not know her. May the Lord grant her His Kingdom!

The Ann Arbor Saint Ė Our Spiritual Responsibility
9/12/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

December 12. This is a date to put on your calendars. Why? We have been given a HUGE privilege in that the Lord saw fit to allow St. Mardarije (Uskokovic) to repose in Ann Arbor. That is right - we have our own Ann Arbor saint! How many Orthodox Christians all over the world would LOVE to have their own saint! A saint that reposed in their city! And our response to this incredible gift that the the Lord gave us is: YAWN. Nothing. No response. No interest. Really? Have we become that cold to spiritual life that we look at the gift that the Lord gave us and our response is to be simply dead? Where are the newborn boys in our parish named Mardarije? Where are the molebens being served to OUR SAINT? Where is the personal veneration of the big and lovely icon we have in our parish church? Perhaps our issues stem from not knowing the life of this favorite of God.

Pandemic Spevka for All!
8/12/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

There are several prayers that we sing together at St. Vladimir's. We want you to know this so that you can practice. :) And the pandemic is the perfect time to practice MORE! That way we will sing these with zeal - with power! WE SHOULD BE LIFTING THE ROOF WHEN WE SING THESE - THEY SHOULD BE SUNG VERY STRONGLY - ESPECIALLY THE CREED AND "HAVING BEHELD THE RESURRECTION..."

Saturday Vigil (and matins during Pentecost) - "Having Beheld the Resurrection of Christ":

Nativity Lent Begins November 28
7/12/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please note that the yearly Lenten period in preparation for our Lordís Nativity begins on November 28. From this day until January 7 we do not partake of meat or dairy products. On many days during this lent fish is allowed. Please consult the parish schedule of services for details in this regard. Have questions about fasting? Never tried to follow the fast before? Please talk to Fr. Gregory for answers! ďWe abstain from meats that we might abstain from the passions...Ē writes St. John Chrysostom. Let us indeed use the fast for what it is Ė a tool to aid us in our spiritual struggle for salvation!

Parish Prayer Kit Updated!
1/12/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Everyone should own a prayer book. We strongly recommend the Jordanville edition, and we have this in our parish kiosk in English and Russian. However, sometimes we don't have a prayer book handy, or sometimes we need practical tools in our "prayer kit". We have added the St. Pachomius rule in Russian. Please check out all the resources on this page!
