The next STV Mother’s Group meeting is Sunday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Fr. Colin’s house. Fr. Colin’s wife Katherine is leading and organizing the group and you should contact her for more information and to RSVP: info@stvladimiraami.org. This little block of time on Sunday night is a GREAT time for dads to spend quality time with their children so that moms can have a few hours to interact with other moms.

Young men, mature men, all men! Being a man in today’s world is a challenge. Being a Christian man is an even greater challenge! Join us for a meal and fellowship at Fr. Gregory’s on Sunday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. No agenda, except for our mature men to mentor our young men, and our young men to inspire our mature men. If we support each other the body of Christ is strengthened and everyone wins, including Christian women, who need strong Christian men (just as Christian men need strong Christian women).

Do you know the troparion to the Great Martyr Theodore the Tyro? “He was offered as a sweet bread to the Trinity.” What does this mean? How do you understand these words? For bread to be sweet and pleasant, first of all, the flour must be well sifted, separated from any impurity, from everything unsuitable, for the bread to be pure and delicious. In the same way, for our heart to be a sacrifice pleasing to God, we must first cleanse it from the passions that are to be found in it, we must uproot them, and then it will be acceptable.
Troparion to the Great Martyr Theodore the Tyro - Tone 2
Great are the accomplishments of faith, / For the Holy Martyr Theodore rejoiced in the flames as though at the waters of rest, / Offering himself as sweet bread to the Trinity. / So by his prayers, O Christ God, save our souls!

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.
In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.
