Welcome to the Home Page of St. Vladimir Church!

Today's Date According to the Church (Old) Calendar:

According to the Executive Order of Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Policy of the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America, St. Vladimir's is temporarily closed to public worship due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although we are saddened by this situation, we also understand that in this war all of society including our St. Vladimirs family must unite to defeat the virus enemy. All resources must be brought to bear if victory is to be obtained. For us that means isolating ourselves from each other so that we do not in any way endanger those in our community who are at high risk of death from the virus. Most of us are healthy. Most of us are strong. Most of us will be unaffected by the virus. But we have to do our part we have to fight selfish self interest and we have to follow the advice of the experts and be obedient to the decisions of our ruling bishop. We thank everyone for their understanding and for their efforts to get us to the point of victory over this invisible foe!

Please contact me or Fr. Moses at any time for any spiritual or material support you need during this time of quarantine. With Gods help and our sincere effort we can have great hope in overcoming our common societal enemy! Let it never be said that we did not do our part with sincerity and zeal! Let it never be said that we felt ourselves special and not in need of taking part in this war! As Orthodox Christians let us be exemplary members of the society in which the merciful Lord has placed us! Let us serve others with valor and Christian Love, whether that service is (for most of us) just staying home and staying safe, or hands-on service of those in need, or other action that we may be called to in service to the eventual victory! All Divine Services will be broadcast on our Live Streams please join us and worship with us just as you would when we gather in the Church, but from your own desert that the Lord has provided us during this time of Great Lent. We are pilgrims in this life dear brothers and sisters the pandemic has just reminded us a bit of this reality. Glory to God for this and for all things!

Parish Preschool First Meeting in Preparation for Fall 2015 is December 14
29/11/14, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
For several years we have talked about a parish preschool for our children (and the children of those outside the parish who would be interested in an Orthodox preschool). In order to accomplish this laudable goal we need to gage interest and support from our community especially our families with young children who would enroll in the preschool. Therefore, during the parish meal on December 14 we will gather all those interested and discuss the best path forward. YOUR INPUT IS WELCOME! We are not exactly sure how we are going to to this, but the support of this idea has been very strong and so we want to investigate this seriously. Please join us on December 14 for this meeting. If you are unable to be present, but you are interested in providing input or in helping to get a preschool off the ground please contact Fr. Gregory. See you December 14! Please spread the word to those you know or suspect would be interested in joining us!

As always, these meetings are open to all St. Vladimir parish family members, but you can't very well attend the meeting if we don't tell you when it will be held. Thus this announcement. Please join us if you like, and please pray for the Parish Council that the Lord will help and guide us in our duties.

Giving Thanks
25/11/14, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
At St. Vladimir's we have much to be thankful for. The Thanksgiving holiday is perhaps the most Christian of all the civil holidays and it behooves us to take a moment at this time of year to reflect on God's blessings and thank Him for these. In fact, it is a pious practice to reflect on each day past before laying down to bed and thank God for all His blessings upon us during that day. Those who do this will never fall to envy, for they will realize that the Lord blesses us in many ways each and every day. At St. Vladimir's we have much to be thankful for, and for this reason we will serve a special moleben and akathist this Wednesday evening. This is a service of Thanksgiving, and although no doubt many of our parish family members will be traveling on Wednesday, many too will still be in town, and we invite all to be present for this special service. Let us always be thankful people and in this way avoid the pitfall of envy that so pervades our society. Glory to God for all things!

Diocesan Fund for those Those in Need of Assistance Collection is this Sunday
22/11/14, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
This Sunday marks the annual collection for the diocesan fund for those in need of assistance. As the diocesan secretary Fr. Gregoryk can vouch for the fact that this fund is one that is used often. In general these funds are used to help those who are not covered by the St. John Kochurov Fund (that fund covers Missions, Monasteries, and Youth), but who are nonetheless in great need. Your generosity at this time of thanks (Thanksgiving is just around the corner and this collection is timed to coincide with that holiday) is greatly appreciated by the diocese, and by those members of the diocese who find themselves in circumstances of privation. If you are unable to join us for this Sunday's liturgy please contact our Starosta to make a contribution to this fund before or after the fact. Thank you!

St. John Kochurov Society Annual Appeal
17/11/14, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Please find the annual appeal for the St. John Kochurov Society here:

http://www.stvladimiraami.org/pamphlets ... al2014.pdf

Our parish has had the largest number of members of this society since its inception in 2009. The society supports Youth, Missions, and Monasteries in the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America. That is our diocese! :) Please help if you can. Even a small donation can make a big difference when it is added to many other small donations.

Please feel free to share this information with others the more people we can get to be members of the St. John Society the more support we can provide for these worthy endeavors in our diocese!

Great Martyr Demetrius Celebrated Tonight & Tomorrow
7/11/14, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
The yearly feast of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica is November 8 on the civil calendar. That date is this tomorrow! At St. Vladimir's we have the unique blessing to have the relics of St. Demetrius in the foundation of our parish church. Therefore, it is both our duty and our pleasure to hold Divine Services on the feast of St. Demetrius each year. We will mark the feast with Vigil this evening at 6:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. This is very big day for our parish - a sort of second patronal feast. Please join us as your schedule allows! Learn more about St. Demetrius at the links below.
