St. Vladimir’s Church School begins September 24! Classes will be held every Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. through December 17 with the exception of November 24. We have condensed the classes to the greatest extent possible for the convenience of our busy families – we value your time. Please do us the favor of valuing the time of the teachers and other volunteers who make our Church School possible by being on time.

All children are urged to participate in the Vigil following Church School and in the Sunday (and other feast day) Divine Liturgies to the greatest extent possible by ringing bells, serving in the altar, singing, helping in the kiosk, and most importantly by being present in the church and praying with their parish family, AND ESPECIALLY by partaking of the Holy Mysteries. The Liturgy is not a spectacle or event that we watch, but a prayerful “work of the people” that we participate in through our prayerful involvement. Please contact Fr. Gregory or Fr. CROSS PROCESSION SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9

Parents – it is your responsibility to care for your children during the Divine Services. Too often there are children in the Nursery and this makes it difficult for nursing mothers to use the Nursery. It should not be the responsibility of nursing mothers to chase the children out of the Nursery. This sends EXACTLY THE WRONG MESSAGE to young families – that they are not welcome at STV. There are two types of children that should be in the nursery: those who are nursing and those who need their diaper changed. It is understood that not every child can stand through the entire service. If a young child needs to step out of the service that is fine of course, but you as a parent must accompany your child in such a situation. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions.

Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Clergy, Choir – EVERYONE! We all need to chip in an take care of the property the Lord has given to us, just as we all need to work together to execute our beautiful Divine Services. Please mark your calendars now for every second Saturday of the month for an all-parish work day. Every season. Every month. Inside. Outside. Always every second Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. please plan to join us to pitch in as we make our parish shine as the House of God that it is! Invite friends! Everyone is welcome! And it just isn’t fair to expect that “someone else” will do this. We all own our parish in that the Lord has given us to be here and to the responsibility that He has given us to care for His House.

The funeral for Olga Radulovic will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8. Divine Liturgy, sung by the Michigan Deanery Youth Choir, begins at 9:00 a.m. Please join us if you are able, to bid farewell to one of our last remaining founders. The founders of churches are remembered at every Divine Liturgy – this is something remarkable that we should note. Let us come together in prayer to say goodbye to our sister in Christ Olga this Saturday. All services will be broadcast on our Live Stream. If you cannot join us, please remember Olga in you prayers especially on Saturday. May her memory be eternal!

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church has always, throughout its 40+ year history, been well supported by its parishioners. This is something that we can be proud of and thankful for. However, this is also something that we often do not think very much about. We know that when we are in church on Sunday there will be some sort of collection, but we don’t usually think very much about this, either before the collection or afterwards. We see this as just a part of going to church. However, stewardship, how we use what God has given us, is something that we should consider and something that we should plan.

It is understood and expected that each member of our parish would have at least one duty that they participate in IN ADDITION to attending the Divine Services. This ranges from baking prosphora, to picking sticks in the cemetery, to shoveling snow, and more! If we all do our little part we will equitably care for the parish the Lord has entrusted to us, and we will not kill off those who do these things if no one else does. It is wise for us to preserve the leadership of our parish, but it is also moral for each parish member to do their part. So please pitch in, and if you have not chosen your duty yet please contact our parish Secretary, Marina Edwards. If she doesn’t hear from you she will reach out to you soon. More involvement in the parish promotes persistence in being part of the parish family – and it keeps a few people from doing everything. With God’s help we will make our metaphor of “family” even more real in our parish by working together for God’s glory in this way!
