How to Support St. Vladimir's
4/10/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

People often ask us how they can make donations to St. Vladimir’s other than by making a donation at church. We work continuously to make this as easy for our parish family and friends as we can and we appreciate your feedback in this regard. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF YOUR PARISH!

During this time of economic difficulty we need your support more than ever! We understand that your bills are higher now than in the past. But so are the parish bills. AND – we are being asked to help those who cannot pay their own bills because of the economic situation. Please establish a regular tithe in support of the parish which God has entrusted to us! You can do that, and investigate other means of supporting St. Vladimir's at this page:

Make Support of STV a Spiritual Question

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
(Matthew 6:21)

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church has always, throughout its 40+ year history, been well supported by its parishioners. This is something that we can be proud of and thankful for. However, this is also something that we often do not think very much about. We know that when we are in church on Sunday there will be some sort of collection, but we don’t usually think very much about this, either before the collection or afterwards. We see this as just a part of going to church. However, stewardship, how we use what God has given us, is something that we should consider and something that we should plan.

Members – Pick Your Duty
3/10/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is understood and expected that each member of our parish would have at least one duty that they participate in IN ADDITION to attending the Divine Services. This ranges from baking prosphora, to picking sticks in the cemetery, to shoveling snow, and more! If we all do our little part we will equitably care for the parish the Lord has entrusted to us, and we will not kill off those who do these things if no one else does. It is wise for us to preserve the leadership of our parish, but it is also moral for each parish member to do their part. So please pitch in, and if you have not chosen your duty yet please contact our parish Secretary, Marina Edwards. If she doesn’t hear from you she will reach out to you soon. You can email her at info@stvladimiraami.org or see her in church. Thank you diligently following through on this program. More involvement in the parish promotes persistence in being part of the parish family – and it keeps a few people from doing everything. With God’s help we will make our metaphor of “family” even more real in our parish by working together for God’s glory in this way!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

On earth, everything is temporary, brief and transitory. Soon everything will pass by, that which is pleasant and delightful, just as what is lamentable and sorrowful. If we have chosen for ourselves the path of piety, then we must remember and not forget the words of the Apostle: All that will live godly in Christ shall suffer persecution (II Timothy 3:12).

+Olga Radulovic

Friends,

Shortly before the beginning of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, October 2, our sister in Christ Olga Radulovic fell asleep in the Lord at the age of 97. Olga is one of our founding members, and gave tirelessly of herself for the establishment and flourishing of our St. Vladimir parish. Many of you knew Olga, while many of you did not, since she has not been able to come to church regularly for some years. But each and every one of us has benefited from the zealous efforts of Olga, and our other founders, who trusted in God that their work would benefit perhaps not themselves, but those that would come after them. Those that came after them are us, and we owe a huge debt to Olga and our other founders who have gone on to their eternal reward. I would submit that we need to emulate their efforts and continue to work diligently now for the parish that the Lord has entrusted to us – even if the benefit from our efforts will be not for ourselves, but for those who come after us.

For now, let us pray for Olga’s repose in the tabernacles of the righteous. In the next days we will be able to plan Olga’s funeral and we will share that information with you here when we have it. May her memory be eternal!

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
2/10/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Ephesians 1:22-2:3 & Luke 3:19-22
Tuesday: Ephesians 2:19-3:7 & Luke 3:23-4:1
Wednesday: Ephesians 3:8-21 & Luke 4:1-15
Thursday: Ephesians 4:14-19 & Luke 4:16-22
Friday: Ephesians 4:17-25 & Luke 4:22-30
Saturday: I Corinthians 14:20-25 & Luke 4:31-36

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!
