Help us Reach our Parish School Goal!
28/8/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to everyone who participated in our parish extraordinary meeting on Sunday, August 26! At this meeting we decided how we would move forward with the building of our parish school: by September 23, 2018 we will need to have $1200/month in pledges set for five years OR $70,000 in our Parish School bank account. So we have lots of work to do! Please help! This is a time sensitive situation – if we push further out than September 23 it is virtually certain that we will miss this year’s construction season, and that will make it impossible to begin instruction in 2019.

1. Please establish a pledge or make a donation today. Visit the fund raising page below or reach out to Fr. Gregory with questions

2. Talk to your friends. We can easily reach that $1200/month if we all chip in just a little! And if we add like-minded friends and loved ones who support Orthodox Christian education we can far surpass that goal!

3. Ask questions! Would you like to learn more about the Ann Arbor Orthodox Christian Academy? Send an email to Fr. Gregory, call him, or see him in church. He or any member of the School Steering Committee can answer your questions.

4. Volunteer! Join the School Steering Committee! We need lots of hands to help with this pleasant and much needed work.

This is a great challenge for our parish family, but a completely attainable one if we all pitch in and help just a bit. Please join our school team and help us surpass our goal!

Festival Sponsorship – How YOU can Help!
27/8/18, 06:00 PM

Please spread the word about festival sponsorships to your doctor, your dentist, your hair stylist, your dog groomer, your grass cutter, your water softener folks, etc., etc. YOU spend money (hundreds or thousands of dollars) at these businesses each year. Most of these businesses would be HAPPY to sponsor our festival since you have established a relationship already. The only way they will not sponsor the festival? If YOU don’t ask! So ask! :)

Share the information with them below - and consider sponsoring the festival yourself - every contribution helps us succeed!

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers
27/8/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

“If the poison of pride is swelling up in you, turn to the Eucharist; and that Bread, Which is your God humbling and disguising Himself, will teach you humility. If the fever of selfish greed rages in you, feed on this Bread; and you will learn generosity. If the cold wind of coveting withers you, hasten to the Bread of Angels; and charity will come to blossom in your heart. If you feel the itch of intemperance, nourish yourself with the Flesh and Blood of Christ, Who practiced heroic self-control during His earthly life; and you will become temperate. If you are lazy and sluggish about spiritual things, strengthen yourself with this heavenly Food; and you will grow fervent. Lastly, if you feel scorched by the fever of impurity, go to the banquet of the Angels; and the spotless Flesh of Christ will make you pure and chaste.”

Extraordinary Meeting this Sunday

There are several issues that we as a parish need to act on before our next annual meeting scheduled for early 2019. According to the Parish By-Laws of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia such issues may be decided at an extraordinary parish meeting. A meeting in this regard has been called for Sunday, August 26, 2018, immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

IOCC School Kits in August – Compiling Kits THIS SATURDAY
23/8/18, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

According to our long-standing tradition at St. Vladimir’s we will gather to prepare School Kits for International Orthodox Christian Charities in August. On Sunday, August 19 we will have a special collection to support the purchase of the school supplies to be used to create the kits. On Saturday, August 25, we will compile the kits following the Divine Liturgy. PARENTS: please be sure to attend the Liturgy on August 25 (begins at 9:00 a.m.) so your children can participate in compiling the kits. These kits are sent to those in need in countries that mandate that children bring their own supplies to school or they cannot attend. Our small contribution makes it possible for children in these countries to be educated. If you would like to make a donation, but you cannot be at Liturgy on August 19, please contact our parish Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov at treasurer@stvladimiraami.org. Thank you for supporting this worthy project!
