Quarter 1, 2022 Stewardship Education Communication
12/7/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

At the Parish Council meeting on March 11, 2017 a Stewardship Education Team was appointed by the Parish Council consisting of Fr. Gregory, Jack (Alexey) Mitchel, and Leta (Ksenia) Nikulshina. The charge of this team is to provide our parish family with educational information about stewardship. In this regard, we intend to send out an email and post on our parish web site a quarterly communication in preparation for a quarterly parish finance report out.

Please find the quarterly communication at the link below. Please note that we will have a question and answer period and report out during the parish meal on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to allow for questions in an open forum. However, please feel free to contact any of us, or any of the Parish Council members, with questions at any time. Or, if you prefer, use the second link below to ask a question or make a comment anonymously.

We thank you sincerely for your generous support of our parish! And we look forward to hearing from you at your convenience regarding this information.

Looking Forward – Next Hierarchal Visit + Ordination
12/7/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

God willing, Archbishop Peter will visit our parish on Saturday, August 27. Please begin to plan now for that date so that you can join us for the visit of our Abba – our father in Christ. Our hierarchs are the successors to the Apostles. All should plan to be present for the Divine Services on August 26 and 27, and if at all possible to prepare to partake of Holy Communion on August 27. Archbishop Peter has blessed the ordination of Subdeacon Dmitri Mihaliov as a Deacon, and that ordination will take place at the Liturgy on August 27. DO NOT MISS THIS VISIT!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

You must not grow faint-hearted. Surely you cannot live without temptations: “Who is the man that shall live and not see death?” (Psalms 88:49), i.e., temptations? Temptation is necessary because it brings about patience, and patience – proficiency. If we were not tried, we would remain ignorant and stupid. In times of trouble, let us accuse ourselves and not others.

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
10/7/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Romans 12:4-5,15-21 & Matthew 12:9-13
Tuesday: Romans 14:9-18 & Matthew 12:14-16,22-30
Wednesday: Romans 15:7-16 & Matthew 12:38-45
Thursday: Romans 15:17-29 & Matthew 12:46-13:3
Friday: Romans 16:1-16 & Matthew 13:4-9
Saturday: Romans 8:14-21 & Matthew 9:9-13

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion
10/7/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

Cross Processions Start July 24
9/7/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

In order to help our friends and neighbors learn about the existence of Orthodox Christianity (many people do not even know we exist!), we will conduct a series of Cross Processions in our local communities. The first will be July 24 after the parish meal. After the short procession (around 1 mile walking at most) we will end at some logical place (town square, etc.) and hold a short concert. We will provide a traditional Orthodox witness to our communities: we will have information about Orthodox Christianity available for those who are interested, and talk to those who would like to learn more. If you would like to take part in the Cross Processions please reach out to Anri Sorel at info@stvladimiraami.org or 734-335-4338. All are welcome!
