Lampadas above the Royal Doors - Please be Attentive
27/6/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We ask all to be attentive to the system we have devised to help folks know when they can and when they cannot move about during the Divine Services to light candles, etc. Even as we ask all to be attentive we also ask all to be loving, and if someone clearly is not aware that we have reached a time in the Divine Service when we should be still that we share that information with them lovingly and in a way that will not cause embarrassment. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or concerns.

Subdeacon Colin Bower Ordination + Services Daily Week of 6/29/20
22/6/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Most will remember that our Colin Bower was to have been ordained a deacon when Archbishop Peter was to have visited during Great Lent. Due to the quarantine that visit was canceled. Vladyka has decided to ordain Colin on Sunday, June 28, at the Diocesan Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God in Des Plaines (Chicago), IL. This is because Pastoral School final exams and thesis defense are slated for June 27, and Colin is participating in the exams and thesis defense in any case.

This is a great blessing for our parish for which we should be very thankful! It is important for us and the future of our parish that those who are able are educated and ordained for service to the community. Please remember Colin, Kaity, and Macrina in your prayers. Our plan is, according to our usual practice, to serve evening services and Divine Liturgy daily the week of June 29. You can sign up for services for that week at the link below:

Monday First Things: Teaching of the Holy Fathers

In proportion to your humility you are given patience in your woes; and in proportion to your patience the burden of your afflictions is made lighter and you will find consolation; in proportion to your consolation, your love of God increases; and in proportion to your love, your joy in the Holy Spirit is magnified. Once men have truly become His sons, our tenderly compassionate Father does not take away their temptations from them when it is His pleasure to make for them a way to escape (1 Cor. 10:13), but instead He gives His sons patience in their trials. All these good things are given into the hand of their patience for the perfecting of their souls.

18/6/20, 06:00 AM

Most of us attend Liturgy regularly on Sundays, but rarely other days. Still, it is good to know when we make prostrations on weekdays, and this is why we have put together this handout. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions. See the handout in PDF format here:

Bread for Good
16/6/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

I have been baking bread for years now. I bake prosphora for the parish and it is common to find my bread served at trapeza or at other parish functions. We currently find ourselves separated from the services, but we cannot leave our Church unsupported monetarily as our clergy work for the benefit of us all. In order to assist the parish during this pandemic I will be selling bread and giving all of the profits to the church to put in the general parish fund. Lord willing this will settle down soon, and when things return to normalcy I will then donate the profits to the building fund. Perhaps someday we can say that bread builds buildings! I will be offering 1.6lb white and whole wheat sourdough loaves for $7 each on an order basis. I can take either cash or check. Stay healthy, and let me help you eat well! Outdoor Liturgy Feedback Wanted!
15/6/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank God we can now gather up to 100 people outside with appropriate physical distancing. Thus, until further notice we will hold Sunday Divine Liturgies outside at least until the weather prohibits this in the late fall. For that reason we very much want your feedback! How could we do this better than we did this last Sunday? We appreciate everyones patience as we learn, but we also appreciate your ideas. Please email us at info@stvladimiraami.org to share your thoughts about how we can improve the outdoor Sunday Divine Liturgy going forward.

All other Divine Services throughout the week will be held inside the church as usual, but there are rules about attending Divine Services you can learn more (and sign up to attend these Divine Services) here:

Monday First Things: Teaching of the Holy Fathers

Behold, for years and generations, the way of God has been leveled by the cross and by death. How is this with thee, that thou seest the afflictions of the way as if they were out of the way? Doest not thou wish to follow the steps of the saints? Or doest thou wish to go a way which is especially for thee, without suffering? the way unto God is a daily cross. No one can ascend unto heaven with comfort, we know where the way of comfort leads.
