Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion
9/4/23, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

Non-Perishable Food Collections: Always at STV
8/4/23, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

At STV we collect non-perishable food items. Always. We don't have food drives - we do this every single day. There are many people in our local community who are food insecure. We ask our parishioners to bring a can or box of non-perishable food every time they come to church. Make this a part of your family worship! The little you give means a lot to a family who is food insecure. Remember our Lord's admonition to us in this regard: "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:35-40)

Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Clergy, Choir – EVERYONE! We all need to chip in an take care of the property the Lord has given to us, just as we all need to work together to execute our beautiful Divine Services. Please mark your calendars now for every second Saturday of the month for an all-parish work day. Every season. Every month. Inside. Outside. Always every second Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. please plan to join us to pitch in as we make our parish shine as the House of God that it is! Invite friends! Everyone is welcome! And it just isn’t fair to expect that “someone else” will do this. We all own our parish in that the Lord has given us to be here. And we all share the responsibility that He has given us to care for His House.

Blessing Pascha Baskets
6/4/23, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Paschal baskets will be blessed at St. Vladimir's following the Divine Liturgy on Holy Saturday (April 15) as well as every subsequent Divine Service of Bright Week. It is most traditional for baskets to be blessed after the Divine Liturgy on Pascha itself, but we realize that this does not work for everyone's schedule, and thus we offer an early opportunity (after the Holy Saturday Divine Liturgy) and later opportunities (after every Divine Service of Bright Week). If you basket is blessed on Holy Saturday after Liturgy you agree that you will not partake of the non-Lenten foods until after the Divine Liturgy on Pascha night, for the fast does not end at midnight, but after the Divine Liturgy on the feast!

Confess Early – but not Often – for Pascha
5/4/23, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Those who confess beginning on Friday, April 7 and any time during Holy Week may partake of Divine Communion during any of the Holy Week & Bright Week Divine Liturgies if they have read their pre-Communion rule. Please plan to come to Confession early in Holy Week so that your Confession will not be rushed due to long lines of others waiting for Confession. ONCE YOU HAVE CONFESSED YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS AGAIN UNLESS YOU FALL INTO A VERY, VERY, VERY SERIOUS SIN. In other words, if you come for a second confession during this time please have a police report to present to the priest explaining your sin. There are MANY who need to confess this week - literally hundreds. Please be merciful to your priests and only confess one time unless there is an extraordinarily serious need to confess a second time.
