Welcome to the Home Page of St. Vladimir Church!

Today's Date According to the Church (Old) Calendar:

According to the Executive Order of Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Policy of the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America, St. Vladimir's is temporarily closed to public worship due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although we are saddened by this situation, we also understand that in this war all of society – including our St. Vladimir’s family – must unite to defeat the virus enemy. All resources must be brought to bear if victory is to be obtained. For us that means isolating ourselves from each other so that we do not in any way endanger those in our community who are at high risk of death from the virus. Most of us are healthy. Most of us are strong. Most of us will be unaffected by the virus. But we have to do our part – we have to fight selfish self interest – and we have to follow the advice of the experts and be obedient to the decisions of our ruling bishop. We thank everyone for their understanding and for their efforts to get us to the point of victory over this invisible foe!

Please contact me or Fr. Moses at any time for any spiritual or material support you need during this time of quarantine. With God’s help and our sincere effort we can have great hope in overcoming our common societal enemy! Let it never be said that we did not do our part with sincerity and zeal! Let it never be said that we felt ourselves “special” and not in need of taking part in this war! As Orthodox Christians let us be exemplary members of the society in which the merciful Lord has placed us! Let us serve others with valor and Christian Love, whether that service is (for most of us) just staying home and staying safe, or hands-on service of those in need, or other action that we may be called to in service to the eventual victory! All Divine Services will be broadcast on our Live Streams – please join us and worship with us just as you would when we gather in the Church, but from your own “desert” that the Lord has provided us during this time of Great Lent. We are pilgrims in this life dear brothers and sisters – the pandemic has just reminded us a bit of this reality. Glory to God for this and for all things!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
26/2/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

Annual Meeting Thank You!
25/2/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Thank you to all who made yesterday’s annual parish assembly such a huge success! The tenor of the meeting was very positive and there were some great conversations about what we were able to do last year and what we hope to do this year as a parish family! Thank you to all who served in parish offices last year. This year’s parish office holders are:

Starosta: Jack (Alexey) Mitchell – Term Runs through 2022
Treasurer: Mikhail Fisenkov
Secretary: Lauren (Maria) Rogers
Parish Council Trustees: Marina Edwards, Dmitri Knysh*, Igor Obertas, Natalia Veniaminova
Auditing Committee: Deacon Vladimir Pyrozhenko*, Subdeacon Colin Bower, Michael Marsh
Editing Committee: Subdeacon Colin Bower & Zhanna Skalitzky

I look forward to working closely with all these outstanding volunteers for the good of our parish family!

Fr. Gregory

*Dmitri and Deacon Vladimir could not join us for the annual meeting, but with Archbishop Peter’s blessing they will continue in this position until we can hold a special meeting to elect them properly. Likely this meeting will take place after Pascha.

Fasting Rule for this Week + Eat at Nick’s Big Cheese Grill!
25/2/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The week before Great Lent (this week) has a unique fasting regiment. This week we are allowed to eat fish and dairy products, but no meat. Here the Holy Church is helping us to prepare ourselves for a good start to Great Lent by allowing us to remove all the dairy products from our homes before Great Lent begins. During this week most folks will probably want a very good grilled cheese sandwich, or other cheesy treats. We should very much stress moderation this week, but it is probably OK to have a treat too. And this is a great opportunity to support our own Nick Vlisides’ sandwich shop “Nick’s Big Cheese Grill”. The shop is located at 2072 Whittaker Rd., Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Support our St. Vladimir’s businesses whenever you can! And start with stopping by Nick’s this week!
