Welcome to the Home Page of St. Vladimir Church!

Today's Date According to the Church (Old) Calendar:

According to the Executive Order of Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Policy of the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America, St. Vladimir's is temporarily closed to public worship due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although we are saddened by this situation, we also understand that in this war all of society – including our St. Vladimir’s family – must unite to defeat the virus enemy. All resources must be brought to bear if victory is to be obtained. For us that means isolating ourselves from each other so that we do not in any way endanger those in our community who are at high risk of death from the virus. Most of us are healthy. Most of us are strong. Most of us will be unaffected by the virus. But we have to do our part – we have to fight selfish self interest – and we have to follow the advice of the experts and be obedient to the decisions of our ruling bishop. We thank everyone for their understanding and for their efforts to get us to the point of victory over this invisible foe!

Please contact me or Fr. Moses at any time for any spiritual or material support you need during this time of quarantine. With God’s help and our sincere effort we can have great hope in overcoming our common societal enemy! Let it never be said that we did not do our part with sincerity and zeal! Let it never be said that we felt ourselves “special” and not in need of taking part in this war! As Orthodox Christians let us be exemplary members of the society in which the merciful Lord has placed us! Let us serve others with valor and Christian Love, whether that service is (for most of us) just staying home and staying safe, or hands-on service of those in need, or other action that we may be called to in service to the eventual victory! All Divine Services will be broadcast on our Live Streams – please join us and worship with us just as you would when we gather in the Church, but from your own “desert” that the Lord has provided us during this time of Great Lent. We are pilgrims in this life dear brothers and sisters – the pandemic has just reminded us a bit of this reality. Glory to God for this and for all things!

Dance Group Starts 1/20/20
15/1/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We have had some GREAT traditional dancing by our young people and our adults at our festival over the last few years, and there has been a desire to continue this pleasant work outside of festival time. And so we will with God’s help! Rehearsals begin on Monday 1/20/20 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3109 Scio Church Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. We thank our Greek Orthodox friends for their kindness in allowing us to use their hall for our rehearsals! The program includes: ethnic Slavic dancing, floor gymnastics and stretching. Two groups will be created: one for children, the second one for adults. Classes will be priced to make it possible for everyone to participate. Rehearsals will be Mondays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for youth, and from 7:00-8:00 p.m. for adults. Learn more by reaching out to Inna Duerr: 734-477-6833.

Teen Photographers Needed!
14/1/20, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We are in need of three regular photographers for our Saturday evening/Sunday morning services. WE WILL TRAIN YOU. We have to train you in fact – there are times when we can takes photos and times when we can’t and we will explain that all to you. We have four teen gentlemen who are providing live video of the Divine Services so we would like to concentrate on young ladies for this task. But young gentlemen are welcome to join our photography cadre too. We are seeking those who do NOT serve in the altar or sing in the choir already. That is, those who are not involved/engaged in some sort of ministry in the parish presently. Those who volunteer will be assigned two weekend cycles of Divine Services per month (Saturday evening/Sunday morning), plus occasional feast day services like Nativity. Contact Fr. Gregory to learn more.

“Thoughts filled with love, mercy, patience, and respect attract God’s grace, and those that harbor anger, hatred, and pride drive it away. If we are overcome by anger, hatred, and pride, it indicates that God’s image within us is damaged.”

Metroplitan Onuphry of Kiev & All Ukraine

Fr. Gregory: That image can be repaired by the medicine found in the Spiritual Hospital, the Orthodox Church.

Inclement Weather Policy - Ice in the Forecast
10/1/20, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

In case of inclement weather St. Vladimir’s parishioners are urged to use caution and their best judgment when deciding whether to travel to the parish church for Divine Services. If the priest is able to reach the church the Divine Services will be conducted, but if parishioners perceive the driving conditions to be dangerous they should not feel compelled to travel to church.

Evangelism: Give a Ride to Church
9/1/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We do not see our elderly parish family members at church every Sunday. And that is true for some of our students too. The reason for this is: they need rides to church. And they need a little prompting sometimes in this regard since they don't want to be “a bother”. It is a privilege to serve our our elderly parish family members and students in this way and we need to be quite zealous about it. This is Evangelism - spreading the Gospel by allowing those who cannot drive to be exposed to it in God's House!

If you can help organize or participate in this ministry please contact Fr. Gregory. There are not a lot of folks that need rides, but they need to be contacted early in the week to arrange the Sunday ride, assured that they are not bothering anyone, and they need to be picked up in a timely manner on Sunday morning. One person doesn't have to do all this, and frankly speaking, based on where our elderly and students live, it would be impossible for one person to do it all. We need several people to help. Please contact Fr. Gregory to take part in this very honorable activity – an activity worth waking up early on Sunday morning to participate in.

All English Cycle is this Friday & Saturday
8/1/20, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

This Friday & Saturday we hold our all-English cycle of Divine Services at St. Vladimir’s. This is a great opportunity to introduce our friends, loved ones, and neighbors to the beauty of the Orthodox Divine Services. But if you keep this secret they won’t know. As a rule we are very bad at secrets. Terrible actually. Yet this one we seems to do relatively well at keeping – and that is bad! Let’s tattle! Let’s tell! Let’s gossip (sort of)! Don’t keep the cure for death that is the Orthodox Faith a secret – invite a friend, loved one, neighbor, stranger to our all-English services this weekend!
