Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

St. John Kochurov Celebrated November 13 – Join the St. John Society!
28/10/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The first priestly martyr of the Bolshevik Revolution was Fr. John Kochurov. Fr. John had spent many years in Chicago as a missionary, and accomplished amazing things during this missionary work. Fr. John was murdered on October 31/November 13, and we therefore commemorate him annual on this date. This year November 13 falls on a Sunday. Our diocesan fund for those in need of assistance is named in St. John’s honor. This November 13 we will hold a membership drive at St. Vladimir’s with the goal of making our parish the single parish of the diocese with the most St. John Kochurov Society members. Learn more at the link below, and please consider joining the St. John Kochurov Society!

New Billboard at STV
27/10/22, 06:00 AM

The Church does not engage in politics, but it does stand up for its moral teachings and speaks out when these are under attack. All are welcome to their political views. But we do hope your views will be strongly influenced by the moral teaching of the Church when applicable, and we welcome questions in that regard to Fr. Gregory or Fr. Colin.

Proposal 3 is a direct attack on the moral teachings of the Church. This is a proposal to change the Michigan Constitution to potentially allow abortion on demand up to birth, and remove all parental rights for minor children’s health decisions pertaining to abortion and transgender sterilization and mutilation. The proposal can only be called spiritually evil. And Orthodox Christians must fight against evil. Therefore we have placed this advertisement on our billboard through Election Day. We urge all to vote against Proposal 3 - and to thereby vote against evil.

Each year around the feast of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica (whose relics reside in our parish foundation) there is a special Church-wide commemoration of the departed: Demetrius Saturday. This year Demetrius Saturday falls on October 29. At St. Vladimir's we will hold Vespers & Matins on Friday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy and a Pannykhida on Saturday, October 29 at 8:00 a.m. Please email names for the memorial services to info@stvladimiraami.org or visit our commemoration page and fill out the form there:

COMMEMORATION REQUESTS

Differentiate between Orthodox and non-Orthodox departed. We pray for both, but we pray differently and we want to do this appropriately – according to the Church’s established practices.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
26/10/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.
