New Wednesday Class - All Are Welcome
19/6/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We strive to provide our parish family with several opportunities to connect with the Church throughout the week, but we are especially focusing on Wednesday – the mid point of the week. A new offering in this regard is Small Compline + Discussion at Fr. Moses' home each Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. and ending around 7:30 p.m. For more information, his address, etc., please call or text him please see this flyer:

In addition to the service and the discussion light refreshments will be served. Please bring a snack to share if you can. This means that now we have an activity to the east of Ann Arbor (Fr. Moses'), to the West (at St. Vladimir's – the weekly akathist) and to the south (Adrian Bible Study). We now need to establish something in Ann Arbor itself and/or to the north. If you are interested in establishing a Bible Study or other similar gathering in either of those areas please contact Fr. Gregory. Here is the Wednesday night lineup as of today:

6:00 p.m. Weekly Akathist for the Ill at St. Vladimir's
6:00 p.m. Weekly Small Compline & Spiritual Discussion at Fr. Moses'
8:00 p.m. Adrian Bible Study

Thank you to our parish delegates to the tri-annual Diocesan Assembly held this last week in Des Plaines, IL. Our parish delegates were Jack (Aleksey) Mitchell, Konstantin Poplavsky, and Dmitri Knysh. Also attending from our parish was Karl (Mercurius) Meyer (Diocesan Council) and Dmitri Kapousta (Diocesan Pastoral School). The assembly was a great success and we are thankful to the Lord for His mercy. Please find the Assembly Resolution on page 3 of our weekly bulletin, Sunday Reading:

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“Prayer in church is important. The best thoughts and feelings come in church, yes, and the enemy attacks more violently in church, but with the sign of the Cross and the Jesus Prayer, you drive him away. It is good to stand in some dark corner in church and to pray to God. “Let us lift up our hearts!” the priest exclaims, but our mind often creeps along the ground, thinking about indecent things. Fight against this.”

Weekly Educational Offering
13/6/18, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: an explanation of this coming Sunday's Gospel reading from Blessed Theophylact:

You need not be despondent. Let those be despondent who do not believe in God. For them sorrow is burdensome, of course, because besides earthly enjoyment they have nothing. But believers must not be despondent, for through sorrows they receive the right of sonship, without which is impossible to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

“The Lord did not come to make a display. He came to heal and to teach suffering men. For one who wanted to make a display the thing would have been just to appear and dazzle the beholders. But for Him Who came to heal and to teach the way was not merely to dwell here, but to put Himself at the disposal of those who needed Him, and to be manifested according as they could bear it, not vitiating the value of the Divine appearing by exceeding their capacity to receive it.”

Festival Sponsorship Committee - Join Us!
29/5/18, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

I was appointed head of the Sponsorship Team for the festival at the last meeting of the planning committee. I won’t be able to visit too many stores or vendors - that is just the reality of my schedule, but I can help coordinate this important work. The work really is important - our most profitable festivals have had an active sponsorship component. Please consider: could you volunteer to help in your area? Are you good working with people? Do you work in sales? This is one of those things where success only comes before work in the dictionary. We have to knock on X number of doors to get Y number of sponsorships. We have to work to be successful. The earlier we start the better. Please contact me if you can help! This will be fun and this will be a huge help to the festival and our parish!
