Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
18/6/23, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Romans 7:1-13 & Matthew 9:36-10:8
Tuesday: Romans 7:14-8:2 & Matthew 10:9-15
Wednesday: Romans 8:2-13 & Matthew 10:16-22
Thursday: Romans 8:22-27 & Matthew 10:23-31
Friday: Romans 9:6-19 & Matthew 10:32-36,11:1
Saturday: Romans 3:28-4:3 & Matthew 7:24-8:4

Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion
18/6/23, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

STV Men Supporting STV Men - Starts June 25
17/6/23, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Young men, mature men, all men! Being a man in today’s world is a challenge. Being a Christian man is an even greater challenge! Join us for a meal and fellowship at Fr. Gregory’s on Sunday June 25 at 6:00 p.m. No agenda, except for our mature men to mentor our young men, and our young men to inspire our mature men. If we support each other the body of Christ is strengthened and everyone wins, including Christian women, who need strong Christian men (just as Christian men need strong Christian women).

Other set dates: July 16, August 13 (not at Fr. Gregory’s), October 1.

Bell Ringing Practice begins June 18!
15/6/23, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Dear parents of potential bell-ringers,

Christ is Risen! Everyone is welcome to learn bell-ringing.

Starting June 18th there will be bell-ringing instruction after Divine Liturgy.

In the meantime, whenever you hear the bells, send your children out. Besides learning how to ring, they need to know when to ring. I will briefly explain the place in the service and the reason for bells at that time and then send them back. You are welcome to come out too.

If you can provide them with ear protection, do so. The parish will be investing in some, so if you can't, don't worry.

There are two types of ear protection: over-the-ear (more comfortable but more expensive. If you buy a pair, put your child's name on it) and in-the-ear (cheaper but harder to put in).

Prosphora Subscription Service at STV
15/6/23, 12:00 PM

The single best way for us to pray for our friends and loved ones is to arrange for them to be remembered at the Divine Liturgy. We serve approximately 130 Divine Liturgies per year, so your friends or loved ones will be prayed for approximately ever three days as a rule at St. Vladimir's.

At STV we offer a subscription service for the commemoration of your friends and loved ones at our parish. The details can be found at the link below. Please contact Fr. Gregory or Deacon Dmitri Mihaliov with questions or to arrange the commemoration of your friends and loved ones using this analog technology (names written in commemoration books or pieces of paper):
