Posted by Fr. Gregory

In order to assist our parish family with their Lenten struggle to reflect on our spiritual lives and then act with the Lord’s help to fight our vices and strengthen our virtues, we have endeavored to maximize our Divine Service schedule this Nativity Lent. As part of this effort, with Archbishop Peter’s blessing, we have scheduled several Midnight Liturgies. Find out more below and please confirm your participation in these quiet, prayerful, spiritually edifying Divine Service cycles by visiting the links provided.

We need a few more folks to learn how to plow snow so that we have enough folks to make sure we are covered for each and every storm. Right now we have three people trained. It would be good to have at least two more. If you can help please contact Fr. Gregory, Konstantin Poplavsky, or Vasily Golubets. Reach out at info@stvladimiraami.org, 734-475-4590, or see one of them at church! Men and women are welcome to join the team!

Monday First Things: Teachings of the Holy Fathers

They asked Abba Sisoes, ‘If a brother sins, surely he must do penance for a year?’ He replied, ‘That is a hard saying.’ The visitors said, ‘For six months?’ He replied, ‘That is a great deal.’ They said, ‘For forty days? ‘He said, ‘That is a great deal, too. ‘They said to him, ‘What then? If a brother falls, and the agape is about to be offered, should he simply come to the agape, too? ‘The old man said to them, ‘No, he needs to do penance for a few days. But I trust in God that if such a man does penance with his whole heart, God will receive him, even in three days.’

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
20/12/17, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

If you are truly interested in the welfare of your children, why do you not watch as strictly, but once a week, how they attend to their lessons in the study of the Law of God, as you do in some home-work, which the children seemed to be forced to have prepared within the next twelve hours for their public school? You must obey God, above the public and all other masters, or lose your souls for the responsibility which rests upon you for the present and future welfare of your children.

Where there is intellect, there always will be knowledge. Still, you must educate the child. Teach the boy and girl geography and history; but if you do not train the child’s will, in order not only to please you, its parents, but to bend before the holy will of Him, who is the only just rewarder of good and evil, then you are a failure as a Christian. Where there is no discipline, there is no constancy.

Extra Divine Services for Nativity Lent – Participation Welcome!

It is our parish practice to serve many of the Great Lenten services during the week, but we have never added extra services during Nativity Lent. Until this year! There will be Divine Services at least once during each week of the Nativity Fast OUTSIDE the usual Saturday/Sunday services this year. This is part of an effort within the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America to serve Divine Liturgy at least once daily during the upcoming Nativity Fast. Sign up today to help with these services (sing, read, serve in the altar) here:

Wednesday Evening Activities Canceled
13/12/17, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Friends,

Based on the forecast for today it seems unwise to hold our usual Wednesday evening activities. Thus, the Akathist tonight and the Adrian Bible Study will be canceled. This is just one of those things we have to deal with living in Michigan. Thank you for your understanding.

In Christ,

Fr. Gregory
