Nativity Lent Begins November 28
26/11/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please note that the yearly Lenten period in preparation for our Lord’s Nativity begins on November 28. From this day until January 7 we do not partake of meat or dairy products. On many days during this lent fish is allowed. Please consult the parish schedule of services for details in this regard. Have questions about fasting? Never tried to follow the fast before? Please talk to Fr. Gregory or Fr. Colin for answers! “We abstain from meats that we might abstain from the passions...” writes St. John Chrysostom. Let us indeed use the fast for what it is – a tool to aid us in our spiritual struggle for salvation!

Colin’s wife Katherine is leading and organizing the group and you should contact her for more information and to RSVP: info@stvladimiraami.org. This little block of time on Sunday night is a GREAT time for dads to spend quality time with their children so that moms can have a few hours to interact with other moms.

Men’s Group – Your Help Needed
24/11/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We have a lot of young men in our parish – thank God for that! We’d like to facilitate relationships between our young Orthodox men and our experienced Orthodox men. Undoubtedly that will happen with the involvement of roasting some sort of beast, enjoying some adult beverages, and just giving folks an opportunity to get to know each other outside the Divine Services. But we need someone to help organize these activities. If you can help please contact Fr. Gregory or Fr. Colin.

Happy Thanksgiving!
24/11/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We congratulate all our St. Vladimir's family and friends with the Thanksgiving Holiday. This civil holiday - very Christian in its character - reminds us of our need to thank God for His many blessings upon us. May we humbly suggest, before you sit down to your family dinner today, that you take a few minutes either privately or as a family to thank God for the many blessings He has given you this past year, and for the many blessings He has given to our parish family? We are privileged to call you all brothers and sisters in Christ, and we thank God for you and for our parish family. Happy Thanksgiving!

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
23/11/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

"Stop Drinking Poison" on Blogtushka
22/11/22, 06:00 PM

The society in which we live seems to be aggressively accelerating its deviation from historical Christian morality. This is not meant as hyperbole in any way – but is an obvious observation by anyone who is paying attention to the moral direction of the West and who has studied the scriptures on even the most superficial level. The defeat of Proposition 3 in Michigan – its very resounding defeat – should be for us the straw that broke the camel’s back in this regard, in case we hadn’t noticed that the camel has been paralyzed for some decades now.

Save the date! And spread the word! The St. Vladimir’s Christmas Bake Sale is back! More information to come soon, but now is the time to reach out to our Head Sister, Leta Nikulshina, and ask her what she needs you to bake. This can be a great fund raiser and a great outreach to our local community if we all pitch in and make it just that. So let’s do that! Please contact Leta today, or when you see her in church, and ask how you can help. And tell everyone you know to come join us! A flyer can be found at this link:
