Festival Parish Meeting/Report Out is October 17
14/10/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please plan to join us during our parish meal on Sunday, October 17. At that meal we will report on the festival financial results and we will seek your feedback. Both of these things are important for our parish family. Right now our main question for next year is: how can we attract more volunteers from outside the parish? Of course we would like to get more of our parish family involved, but we need outside help as the festival grows. Your input in this regard will be most welcome. And all the other ideas you have to make the festival even better next year!

If you can’t join us on October 17, or if you prefer to send your information rather than speak up at the meeting, please visit one of the festival surveys below.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
13/10/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact

For Youth: from the Antiochian Archdiocese (various age groups)

Ann Arbor Orthodox Classical Academy On-Line Program Registration Open
12/10/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

When we began our school project we promised that we would begin instruction in the fall of 2021. We couldn’t have foreseen the pandemic then, and the huge complication that would provide to our building project. But despite all that, we opened registration on Sunday, September 26 for our on-line offerings for this year. You can learn more here – please spread the word and/or consider this for your K-2 children if what you are doing this fall for school has not worked out well for your family:

A2OCA ON-LINE PROGRAM 2021-22

Starting in Fall of 2022 we will offer in person instruction, but since the pandemic made that impossible this year, we are beginning with on-line instruction!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers

“He who does not hold to his own will always has what he will; for externally he does not get his own way but whatever happens, no matter what it is, gives him quiet satisfaction and he discovers for himself that he has what he will. For he does not want things to happen as he wishes; he wants things to have happened as they happen.”

Scripture Reading for the Coming Week
10/10/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

"This is the cause of all evils: the ignorance of the Scriptures. We go into battle without arms, and how ought we to come off safe?" -St. John Chrysostom, Homily IX on Colossians.

In order to help increase the general knowledge of scripture in our parish family we present here for your edification the scripture readings for the coming week. At least one Gospel Reading and one Epistle reading are assigned for each day of the year (although during Great Lent the readings are from the Old Testament). Hearing or reading only those readings appointed for Sunday merely scratches the surface of the great spiritual wealth that the scriptures provide us. Some of the readings are easily understandable – others are less so. As Orthodox Christians we do not make private interpretation of scripture, but rather consult the fathers of the Church for their explanations to aid us in our understanding. Those wishing to have access to such explanations are asked to contact Fr. Gregory or inquire in the kiosk for further reading in this regard. Bibles may also be acquired in the kiosk.

Monday: Ephesians 1:22-2:3 & Luke 4:37-44
Tuesday: Ephesians 2:19-3:7 & Luke 5:12-16
Wednesday: Ephesians 3:8-21 & Luke 5:33-39
Thursday: Ephesians 4:14-19 & Luke 6:12-19
Friday: Ephesians 4:17-25 & Luke 6:17-23
Saturday: I Corinthians 14:20-25 & Luke 5:17-23

Please find below several very nice articles on how to read the scripture from an Orthodox point of view.
