Confession & Communion at St. Vladimir’s + Rule to Prepare for Communion

Posted by Fr. Gregory

Confession and Communion are the two sacraments we most often partake of as Orthodox Christians and thus it behooves us to learn about these, how to prepare for these, and how to best take advantage of the Grace that our Lord freely gives us in these sacraments. At St. Vladimir’s we have created a special web site for this purpose with much information in this regard. Please find the web site listed below and please contact Fr. Gregory with questions!

We congratulate our new First Hierarch, elevated to Metropolitan following Vigil tonight at the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City! His Eminence asked us all to pray for him upon receiving the white kolobuk and blue mantia - let us heed his call and pray for him, our bishops, and for each other!

Spevka for All!

There are several prayers that we sing together at St. Vladimir's. We want you to know this so that you can practice. :) And as we come out of the pandemic it is the perfect time to practice MORE! That way we will sing these with zeal - with power! WE SHOULD BE LIFTING THE ROOF WHEN WE SING THESE - THEY SHOULD BE SUNG VERY STRONGLY - ESPECIALLY THE CREED AND "HAVING BEHELD THE RESURRECTION..."

Saturday Vigil (and matins during Pentecost) - "Having Beheld the Resurrection of Christ"

Nursery is for Nursing – Parents Please Note
16/9/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Parents – it is your responsibility to care for your children during the Divine Services. Too often there are children in the Nursery and this makes it difficult for nursing mothers to use the Nursery. It should not be the responsibility of nursing mothers to chase the children out of the Nursery. This sends EXACTLY THE WRONG MESSAGE to young families – that they are not welcome at STV. There are two types of children that should be in the nursery: those who are nursing and those who need their diaper changed. It is understood that not every child can stand through the entire service. If a young child needs to step out of the service that is fine of course, but you as a parent must accompany your child in such a situation. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions.

New Subscription Service at STV Started 9/14/22
15/9/22, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

The single best way for us to pray for our friends and loved ones is to arrange for them to be remembered at the Divine Liturgy. We serve approximately 130 Divine Liturgies per year, so your friends or loved ones will be prayed for approximately ever three days as a rule at St. Vladimir's.

Beginning on September 1/14, 2022 we will offer a subscription service for the commemoration of your friends and loved ones at our parish. The details can be found at the link below. Please contact Fr. Gregory or Deacon Dmitri Mihaliov with questions or to arrange the commemoration of your friends and loved ones using this analog technology (names written in commemoration books or pieces of paper):

Cross Procession for Peace is THIS SATURDAY
15/9/22, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

On the Saturday that we had originally scheduled our Russian Festival for this year (Saturday, September 17) we will hold a Cross Procession and prayers for peace in Ukraine. There are two options to participate in this action for peace:

1. Join our Cross Procession that day. All are welcome, but there will be no politics AT ALL. We will walk and pray together under the protection of the Cross according to the established Orthodox tradition, asking the Lord to grant peace in Ukraine. The procession begins at 10:00 a.m. More information and a sign up can be found at the link below. Please sign up if you intend to participate. This helps us plan first aid, water, and other necessary material things to make sure all can participate safely:

2. Join us for our special prayer service (moleben) for peace after the Cross Procession at St. Vladimir’s. All are welcome, but there will be no politics AT ALL. We are interested only in the Lord’s help – because clearly only the Lord can stop the war, and human wisdom has done nothing positive in this regard thus far. The special prayer for peace will take place at St. Vladimir’s about 1:00 p.m. That is, when the Cross Procession ends. Doors will be open beginning at 12:00 p.m. for those who would like to pray quietly in the church and wait for the Cross Procession to return.

Even if you cannot join us, please read this prayer for peace in Ukraine and America at 1:00 p.m. that day – this is about the time we will be reading this same prayer at St. Vladimir’s:

Make Support of STV a Spiritual Question

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
(Matthew 6:21)

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church has always, throughout its 40+ year history, been well supported by its parishioners. This is something that we can be proud of and thankful for. However, this is also something that we often do not think very much about. We know that when we are in church on Sunday there will be some sort of collection, but we don’t usually think very much about this, either before the collection or afterwards. We see this as just a part of going to church. However, stewardship, how we use what God has given us, is something that we should consider and something that we should plan.
