SAVE THE DATE - St. John Kochurov Day at St. Vladimir's is November 13
21/7/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
November 13 marks the annual feast of St. John Kochurov, the first priestly martyr of the Bolshevik Revolution. St. John was a priest in Chicago before he returned home and suffered as a martyr. For this reason our diocese has taken St. John as a patron for the St. John Kochurov Society – the diocesan fund for those in need of assistance. This fund focuses on three main diocesan endeavors: Youth, Missions, and Monasticism. Since the founding of this society our parish has had the largest number of members of any parish in the diocese and this is something to be thankful for – and to strive to continue! According to the decision of Bishop Peter, each of the deaneries in our diocese will establish a local St. John Society in 2015. As ours is the deanery parish (by default – since our Rector is the Dean of Michigan) the deanery St. John Kochurov Society will be located here. On the feast of St. John of St. we will hold Vespers & Matins on November 12 at 6:00 p.m. and Divine Liturgy on November 13 at 8:00 a.m. All members of the St. John Society are called upon to participate in the Divine Servcies this day to the greatest extent possible. At 6:00 p.m. on November 13 we will hold a reception at Fr. Gregory's home in honor of St. John and as a fundraiser for the St. John Society. ALL ST. VLADIMIR PARISH FAMILY MEMBERS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! This is true whether you are a member of the St. John Society or not. Of course - EVERYONE should be a member and you will be encouraged to join at the reception - but whether you join or not we welcome you to celebrate this great saint and to support the efforts of our diocese to fund our Youth activities, Mission parishes, and Monasteries! Please save the date now - more to come soon!

Help Fr. Gregory Serve our Russian Speaking Parishioners
20/7/15, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We would like to offer a weekly "mini-bulletin" with translations of the scriptures read on the weekend into Russian, as well as a short sermon on the theme of the Sunday Gospel reading in Russian. These would be available for distribution at our kiosk for those who do not understand English well. This is not a large population in our parish (almost all of our native Russian speakers also speak English fluently), but there are a few people that this mini-bulletin will benefit. If you would like to help Fr. Gregory prepare this mini-bulletin please contact him. No translation will be necessary, but a working knowledge of Russian and of MS Word or other similar word processor will be needed. Thank you in advance for assisting with this important ministry!

Extraordinary Parish Meeting Set for July 26, 2015
20/7/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We have received the bids back for phase 1 of our building project. We are calling a parish meeting for July 26 to provide an update to the parish as well as to discuss possible financing options. Bids were received that exceed (by a relatively modest amount) the cash we have on hand. We could reduce the scope of the project or we could take a loan to cover the full scope. But this is a decision that we can only make as a parish. Please plan to join us on July 26 immediately after the Liturgy for a brief parish meeting to discuss and resolve this situation so that we can have our new driveway and parking lots ready for our festival on September 19-20. The official correspondence in this regard is at this link and will be sent via post (this is a necessity based on the Normal Parish Bylaws) today:

Brotherhood Work Day Saturday, July 18
17/7/15, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
From our Head Brother:

Gentlemen,

If you have been wondering if you should show up for the workday Saturday, wonder no longer. You should. If you've been thinking there won't be enough to do, don't think that. There's lots to do, including:

~pulling out the fence along Jackson road
~moving boulders from the far SE corner of the property to under the cross in the field to make a "Golgatha"
~cutting down the dying tree by the bells & removing low spruce branches
~fixing the planter borders on the west side
~removing dirt: east & west sides
~cleaning/sweeping/tidying

Enough? there will be more--I have one or two tasks in reserve-- because I know everyone likes a surprise.

Hope to see you Saturday at 10 AM

Cordially,

John W. Hill
Head Brother

14/7/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
Please join us for a fun missionary activity on Saturday, December 5, 2015. That afternoon Saline holds their annual holiday parade. This parade is generally very well attended and given that it is the holiday season many people will be thinking about faith. We want to let them know that we exist and that they would be welcome at St. Vladimir’s! Participating in the parade is one of the best ways we can do that. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Please save the date now - more information to come in the early fall - but take a moment - right now - to get this on your calendar so nothing can steal its place the afternoon of December 5!

Commemorating our Loved ones at the Divine Services
13/7/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We have a special web page at St. Vladimir's that is set up to facilitate commemoration of our friends and loved ones at the Divine Liturgy – THIS IS THE SINGLE BEST WAY TO PRAY FOR THEM. The page can be found a this address:

http://stvladimiraami.org/commemoration ... ions.shtml

There are several ways listed on that page to assure that your friends and loved ones are being prayed for at the Divine Services at St. Vladimir's. Another is to use this Google Doc to send us their names:

http://goo.gl/forms/SLnBZ9OupT

Names are commemorated at the Divine Liturgy, General Pannykhidas, and other appropriate Divine Services. It is our pleasure to provide this service to our parish family and friends.

Our Elderly Parish Family Need Rides to Church
10/7/15, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory
We do not see our elderly parish family members at church on Sunday morning every week. In fact we do not see them all that often. The reason for this is: they need rides to church. And they need a little prompting sometimes in this regard since they don't want to be “a bother”. It is a privilege to serve our our elderly parish family members in this way and we need to be quite zealous about it. If you can help organize or participate in this ministry please contact Fr. Gregory. There are not a lot of folks that need rides, but they need to be contacted early in the week to arrange the Sunday ride, assured that they are not bothering anyone, and they need to be picked up in a timely manner on Sunday morning. One person doesn't have to do all this, and frankly speaking, based on where our elderly live, it would be impossible for one person to do it all. We need several people to help. Please contact Fr. Gregory to take part in this very honorable activity – an activity worth waking up early on Sunday morning to participate in.
