Confess Early – but not Often – for Pascha
29/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Those who confess beginning on Friday, April 23 and any time during Holy Week may partake of Divine Communion during any of the Holy Week & Bright Week Divine Liturgies if they have read their pre-Communion rule. Please plan to come to Confession early in Holy Week so that your Confession will not be rushed due to long lines of others waiting for Confession. ONCE YOU HAVE CONFESSED YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS AGAIN UNLESS YOU FALL INTO A VERY, VERY, VERY SERIOUS SIN. There are MANY who need to confess this week - literally hundreds. Please be merciful to your priests and only confess one time unless there is an extraordinarily serious need to confess a second time.

Weekly Educational Offering - Prepare for the Coming Sunday!
28/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

We present here a short educational offering for both children and adults on the upcoming Sunday's principle Gospel reading so that all can better prepare for the Divine Services. Parents are asked to review the children’s portion with their children. It is very important for us to attend the Divine Services on Sundays and whenever else we are able, but in addition it is our spiritual responsibility to educate ourselves and our families in the faith. It is our hope that this mid-week offering will be an aid in this regard. Please contact Fr. Gregory with questions or suggestions.

For Adults: from the writings of Blessed Theophylact

For Youth: from the Antiochian Archdiocese (various age groups)

Second Pascha Liturgy Added
28/4/21, 12:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Some of our parish family have expressed Covid-related concerns at joining the one large Paschal service we have scheduled. St. Paul says “I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” (I Corinthians 9:22). We need to do that as a parish too – within reason we need to serve all our parishioners if at all possible. And we can have a second Liturgy on Pascha. And so we will. The second Paschal Divine Liturgy will be in the parish church proper and begin at 8:00 a.m. We invite those who are concerned about the pandemic, or who otherwise cannot be at the midnight Liturgy to sign up to participate – sign up is required, as is masking and social distancing:

Please note that we have a Paschal Vespers and Matins EVERY EVENING and Paschal Divine Liturgy EVERY DAY of Bright Week. We invite those that cannot participate in one of the two services on Pascha to join us for these services, or all who just love the Paschal services (and who doesn’t?!) to join us for as many of these services as possible. One simply cannot sing “Christ is Risen” enough times! Sign up for Bright Week services here:

Blessing Pascha Baskets 2021
27/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Paschal baskets will be blessed at St. Vladimir's following the Divine Liturgy on Holy Saturday as well as every subsequent Divine Service of Bright Week. It is most traditional for baskets to be blessed after the Divine Liturgy on Pascha itself, but we realize that this does not work for everyone's schedule, and thus we offer an early opportunity (after the Holy Saturday Divine Liturgy) and later opportunities (after every Divine Service of Bright Week). If you basket is blessed on Holy Saturday after Liturgy you agree that you will not partake of the non-Lenten foods until after the Divine Liturgy on Pascha night, for the fast does not end at midnight, but after the Divine Liturgy!

Annual Meeting is May 16 – Membership Drive on Now!
24/4/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please join us for our annual parish meeting on May 3/16, 2021. God willing, the Kursk Icon will be present for the annual meeting. That is a first for our parish, and likely will never happen again. We need to see that as a blessing, and perhaps even a message. The Lord has blessed us greatly during the pandemic. The Parish Council is very interested in finding the silver lining of the cloud that is the pandemic. To find out what that means (and it means something very significant for our parish) join us at the meeting!

Almsgiving at St. Vladimir’s this Great Lent
23/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Almsgiving is a strong tradition of the Holy Church during lenten periods. As we spend less on our food at these times of year we take that extra and give it to those less fortunate. At St. Vladimir's we will collect alms according to the following schedule this Great Lent:

If you are not able to join us, but would like to support these efforts, please contact our Treasurer, Mikhail Fisenkov, to discuss support options: treasurer@stvladimiraami.org

Lazarus Saturday - All the Details
22/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Lazarus Saturday is the first day of Holy Week. This year the date is April 24. Each year this is a very full day for us - this year being no exception! Please note:

1. CHURCH SCHOOL GENERAL CONFESSION & COMMUNION: all young people of the parish are strongly encouraged to attend the Matins service on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and to confess during or after the service. The service is short - do not come late! Parents - you will have to drive. Please get this on your child's schedule now.

2. CHURCH SCHOOL IS NOT HELD AT 5:00 P.M. ON LAZARUS SATURDAY: Church School IS the Divine Liturgy and the partaking of Holy Communion on this day, as well as participating in the arranging of Palms and Pussy Willows after the Divine Liturgy. THERE IS NO CHURCH SCHOOL AT 5:00 P.M. THIS DAY!

3. CONFESS EARLY BUT NOT OFTEN: those who confess beginning on Friday, April 23 and any time during Holy Week may partake of Divine Communion during any of the Holy Week & Bright Week Divine Liturgies if they have read their pre-Communion rule. Please plan to come to Confession early in Holy Week so that your Confession will not be rushed due to long lines of others waiting for Confession. ONCE YOU HAVE CONFESSED YOU SHOULD NOT CONFESS AGAIN UNLESS YOU FALL INTO A VERY SERIOUS SIN. There are MANY who need to confess this week - literally hundreds. Please be merciful to your priests and only confess one time unless there is a very serious need to confess a second time.

Holy Week & Bright Week at St. Vladimir’s

The full schedule of services for Holy Week and Bright Week at St. Vladimir’s can be found at the following link. Please plan to join us as your personal schedule allows! And please push yourself just a little bit. These Divine Services, at which we are mystically present at the very events commemorated (for instance, for our Lord’s betrayal, scourging, crucifixion, and death at the Holy Thursday evening service) are important for our salvation. The Holy Church gives us these opportunities as a gift – let us thankfully receive this gift by making a sincere effort to be present. Ideally we would attend the services in person, but if that is not possible, all services will be broadcast on our parish live streams.
