Great Lent Ending - Act Now!
15/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

It is hard to believe, but this coming Sunday is the LAST SUNDAY of Great Lent. Strictly speaking there are two lenten periods at this time of year: Great Lent and Holy Week. Great Lent ends with the Presanctified Liturgy on Friday, April 23. That means this Sunday is the last Sunday of Great Lent. The ideal response to this shocking news should be reflection. How have I done? What do I want to do before we meet the risen Christ on May 2? What is my plan for Holy Week? Maybe things have not been just what I planned, but how can I make good use of the rest of this most important time of year? As a help to your prayerful reflection we provide a link to our Holy Week and Bright Week schedule below. Please take advantage of the daily services those two weeks. This is a time for us to be in church as often as possible, walking with Christ during Holy Week and celebrating with Him and the disciples (and our parish family) in his Resurrection during Bright Week. May the Lord help us in our struggle!

All are welcome! The services will be inside the church, so we ask that you sign up. This allows us to understand the number of people that will attend since we have limited, physically distanced spaces inside the temple. The link to the sign up sheet can be found on our parish home page. If you have any trouble finding that please email: info@stvladimriaami.org.

Our usual pandemic guidelines will be followed, as at all other Divine Services in the Winter Worship Space. Details can be found at the flyer below, which would also be good to share with friends and loved ones:

Great Standing of St. Andrew is this Wednesday
13/4/21, 06:00 PM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Please join us for the Standing of St. Andrew this Wednesday. We won’t mince words – this is a long service. One of the longest of the year. And it is a challenge – and one we should embrace! At this service we read the entire penitential canon of St. Andrew of Crete, the entire life of St. Mary of Egypt, and the full Matins service in preparation for the Presanctified Liturgy on THURSDAY night. There is only one life of a saint that is mandated to be read in the Divine Services during the entire year. And this is the life of St. Mary of Egypt. This should tell us something – it should tell us this is important and we should participate in this service as we are able. Ideally by attending the service, but if that is impossible, via the live stream. Please join us as your personal schedule allows!

Monday First Things - Teachings of the Holy Fathers
12/4/21, 06:00 AM
Posted by Fr. Gregory

Whoever enters on the true path of pleasing God, or who begins with the aid of grace to strive toward God on the path of Christ’s law, will inevitably be threatened by the danger of losing his way at the crossroads, of going astray and perishing, imagining himself saved. These crossroads are unavoidable because of the sinful inclinations and disorder of one’s faculties which are capable of presenting things in a false light — to deceive and destroy a man. To this is joined the flattery of Satan, who is reluctant to be separated from his victims and, when someone from his domain goes to the light of Christ, pursues him and sets every manner of net in order to catch him again — and quite often he indeed catches him.
