This Sunday we commemorate the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. This is not one of the twelve great feasts of the Church, but liturgically it is essentially identical to one of the twelve great feasts. For that reason we will add a Litya (blessing of 5 loaves) to the Vigil on Saturday night. Weather permitting we will serve the Litya outside (before the main doors of the church). DO NOT MISS this very interesting, edifying, and educational service! And please remember that this Sunday is a fast day, one of the rare one-day fasts of the Church. This fast is instituted in commemoration of the day: the Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
